Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of electric?
To name a few: no fumes, less noise, no winterization, and exhilarating acceleration.
How far can I go on a single charge?
A single charge will go about 30 miles at cruising speed and up to 80 miles at slower speeds. For most people, this is a full day of boating. Range varies based on power consumption, weather conditions, and boat package.
What do I do if the battery runs out while I'm out at sea?
Our outboards are equipped with a low power mode which activates when you dip below 10% charge. This limits the power output via software override, drastically extending your range. In low power mode, you can travel the full distance you traveled with the initial 90% of your battery with just the last 10% because the motor is hyper-efficient at slow speeds.
Where can I charge?
All Flux boat packages come fully equipped with a portable charge cable that is compatible with 120V, 240V, and DC Fast Charging. This allows you to charge anywhere there is power. Most marinas have shore power (240V) which can be used to charge a Flux system. For customers that trailer their boat, the system can be charged from any outlet or standard EV charger.
How long does it take to charge?
Depending on the power supply available, the system can be charged up to 80% in as little as an hour. Common power pedestals will produce a full charge in 6-12 hours.
What is the estimated delivery time?
Flux Marine is delivering systems to the public now. Place a preorder today, and a member of our team will contact you to schedule delivery. Generally, we are able to fulfill orders within a few months.
Who can service my boat and motor?
Our motors are IOT connected and can be updated remotely for basic repairs and performance improvements. If further maintenance is needed for the Flux system, we will work with you to provide the needed work. Local mechanics can also be enlisted to service the rest of the boat.
Is electricity on boats safe?
Electricity on boats is not a new challenge, as most boats have auxiliary power systems to provide energy for functions other than propulsion. All electronics, including the outboard and battery pack, are waterproofed to IP67 standards. Our system uses an array of sensors to actively monitor functionality and detect failure points. In the event of a fault, the system will de-energize. In other words, we have taken every precaution to keep you safe on the water.
Where do the batteries go?
The batteries are typically placed in the boat hull, often where a gas tank would have otherwise been.
What type of batteries do you use?
We use lithium-ion batteries.
What is the equivalent horsepower rating to a combustion engine?
We rate horsepower based on the continuous power each motor can produce at the propeller. That means the FM100 really does produce 100HP continuously but has the acceleration power of 150HP for short bursts.
What is included with a Flux boat package?
All of our boat packages include the hull, Flux's 100% electric outboard, the battery pack, a throttle, a Garmin Chartplotter with custom Flux software, and a portable charge cable. Customers also get access to the Flux mobile app.
What is the warranty on a Flux Marine boat package?
We offer a 5-year standard warranty on both the Flux drivetrain and the battery packs. This warrants that these systems are free from defects in materials and workmanship. Parts of the package that are not manufactured by Flux Marine, including but not limited to boats, electrical equipment, hardware, and other items will receive the manufacturer's warranties based on the specific manufacturer policies.
